I am a ‘doctor’, not a lawyer, therefore I’ve never been real generous with legal opinions. But this I much I know: if someone is shooting at your house or business when you and your family or workers are inside it seems to me that returning fire is a very fucking reasonable thing to do. If you can’t show your own weapons were stored properly before being used the law may permit a bit of blow back but I think that’s about it.
My concern is that if extortionists come to expect fire to be returned they may move from guns to bombs.
