I listened to all my Psychedelic Furs albums today. Had to play them plenty loud to drown out the wicked storm that’s been raging for well over 12 hours now without letting up a bit. Do not have all their albums so it did not take as long as you might think if you are familiar with their entire catalogue.

Was a time I would have to say the Furs, as they were known, were Sonja and my favourite band. I guess we were not yet going out when I saw them first. There were maybe a few hundred people there. They’d borrowed Hawkwind’s Atomhenge Light show for their American tour. It was considered to be the finest light show of its day and I had already seen it the only time I saw Hawkwind a couple years earlier. From the distinctive first notes of album lead cut India ‘til lights out it was a magic night.

A photographer I know found singer Richard Butler to be an enduringly favourite subject for her lens.

Sound of their first album is shoddy. A re-release is supposed to have improved it.

Next time I saw them Sonja was with me. The inclusion of their song ‘Pretty in Pink’ in the popular movie of the same name had drawn them a much wider and I dare say more enthusiastic audience. It was a much bigger house they played to and they did not disappoint. I like it when new bands I like make the jump.

Pretty in Pink is one of those songs that makes me feel really, really happy and is in my view one of our world’s perfect songs.

The records that followed their early period are all pretty good too. Headphone band.
