The unexpected. Love a good surprise. Like the one I got when slipping a used Johnny Allen album from its cardboard sleeve for the first time this morning. A menu from Leduc’s Country Corral, run by Ron and Diane Guiltner, fell out with the dusty record. From the early ‘80s I would have to say. Cocktails from $2.95; wine from $8.50 a litre; bottle of Mumm’s $33.00; 14 oz. t-bone 14.95; slice of apple pie $1.75. Those were the days my friend.
Allen, one of Canada’s many fine steel guitar players, left us some years ago but his records and concert memories will be with us forever. Long live Johnny Allen! Long live the Sons of the Saddle! Long live the Country Corral! Long live Leduc rock ‘n’ roll!
